Five Truths for a Life of Freedom and Peace

Watching my three-year-old grandson play with his Spiderman toys fills me with joy. His innocent enthusiasm and complete immersion in his tiny world remind me of something I’ve only recently embraced: the freedom to be playful and present. For much of my life, I struggled to fully experience joy, weighed down by challenges and circumstances I thought were beyond my control.

Through meditation and reading spiritual books like There is a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem by Wayne Dyer, I’ve realized my life was shaped less by external events and more by my perception of them. That shift brought me five lessons I wish I’d known earlier:

  1. Challenges help us evolve. Life isn’t random—it unfolds to teach us lessons. Painful events often lead to growth, even if we can’t see it at the moment.

  2. Joy is a choice. I’ve let others steal my joy, especially during heartbreaks. But I’ve learned that pain is temporary, and joy lies in choosing to embrace life’s opportunities.

  3. Being seen is vital. I hid parts of myself out of fear of rejection. But the freedom to live authentically—to be fully seen—is worth everything.

  4. Pain can serve others. Our struggles aren’t just for us. They equip us to support others in their darkest moments, creating connections that heal.

  5. Everything will be okay—with time. Life often proves that unexpected grace follows pain, but we must remain hopeful and open to it.

These truths have transformed me. They’ve allowed me to meet life with freedom, peace, and a deep appreciation for simple, joyful moments—like watching a little boy pretend to save the world.
